Volunteer Spotlight: Mike Smith | 10 Years of Service at PROP

At PROP, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, and this month we’re excited to shine the spotlight on Mike Smith.

Mike has been volunteering with PROP for 10 years, serving as a grocery recovery driver on Monday mornings and leading a variety of facility improvement projects. Over the years, he’s become a trusted resource for both large and small projects that help keep PROP running smoothly.

From researching solutions for major initiatives involving concrete work, electrical needs, and tree replacement, to assisting with practical improvements like installing a protective handrail at the floor scale and a new bathroom lock, Mike consistently steps up to help make PROP a better place for staff, volunteers, and clients.

When asked what he enjoys most about volunteering, Mike shared that it’s the camaraderie with fellow volunteers and staff, along with the sense of accomplishment that comes from completing improvement projects.

Team members across PROP appreciate Mike’s dedication and positive attitude.

“Mike is a super nice guy! Very helpful and takes care of things quickly,” says Executive Director Christy Nicholaisen.

Director of Operations, Hailey Sparrow adds, “He helps with all our special projects and is always willing to assist!”

Outside of PROP, Mike’s love of building and problem-solving has deep roots. A fun fact about him: he spent his childhood building tree houses in the woods behind his home and still enjoys planning and building projects today.

Mike’s willingness to lend a hand, solve problems, and support PROP’s mission has made a lasting impact over the past decade. We’re incredibly grateful for his dedication and all he does to help PROP serve our community.

Thank you, Mike, for 10 years of service and for helping build a stronger PROP!
