Honor/Memorial Gifts

Make a gift to memorialize a friend or loved one, or to celebrate a milestone or holiday. We will notify the person or family that you made a donation in remembrance or in honor of them.

Matching Gifts and United Way Funding

Take advantage of your company’s giving opportunities, such as matching gifts and United Way funding. Many companies match employee gifts. Consult with your human resources staff to see if your employer offers corporate matching or United Way funding. Designated PROP Food Shelf for these company gifts makes a tremendous difference for our neighbors in need.

Gifts of stock and appreciated investments

Shares of stock, bonds and mutual funds that have appreciated in value can make a great gift to PROP.  When you gift appreciated securities directly to PROP you may take advantage of tax benefits while supporting our vital mission.  By gifting appreciated investments you accomplish two things:

First, you may be able to receive a tax deduction for the fair market value of the gift.  Gifts of securities are generally deductible up to 30% of your adjusted gross income in the year the gift is made.

Second, you avoid paying capital gains tax on the appreciated shares that you would otherwise have to pay if you sold the shares vs gifting them.  As a charitable organization PROP keeps the full value of the gift to serve our neighbors in need.

IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution

If you are going to be age 70 1/2 or older this year, you have the power to make a gift to PROP without having to write a check.

Under the Qualified Charitable Distribution provision, you can donate up to $100,000 this year directly from your IRA to a charity like PROP.  This donation counts toward you annual required minimum distribution but does not add to your taxable income.

To take advantage of this opportunity and make a gift to PROP, contact Jenifer Loon at 952.294.8380 as you’ll need our brokerage account information and DTC number to share with your broker.  Or, instruct your broker that you wish to have a check sent from your IRA to PROP.  When you decide to gift via this route, be sure to let us know so we can process your gift accurately.

Before gifting, please be sure to consult your tax professional.

Bequests

If you are deeply invested in PROP’s mission to help our neighbors in need, please consider including PROP for a future gift in your will or estate plan.  You may use the following language:

I hereby give, devise and bequeath to People Reaching Out to People (PROP Food Shelf), located at 14700 Martin Drive, Eden Prairie, MN, 55344, Federal Tax ID 41-1430172 (then state a dollar amount or percentage of the estate, or residue after you have fulfilled other bequests, or description of property) for the benefit of PROP’s general operations.

If your estate is taxable, you will enjoy an estate tax deduction for the value of your gift.  Please consult with an attorney to assist you in putting your plans into motion.  It is always helpful to discuss your gift with us at PROP to ensure that any purpose you designate can be honored as you wish.

Donate your Vehicle

Completing Your Donation is Easy! Here’s How It Works:

1)      Call Toll Free 866.398.GIVE (866.398.4483).  The CARS Vehicle Donor Support Team will walk you through the process, including arranging your free pick-up and helping you with steps to release your liability after you donate.

2)    Schedule Your Free Pick-up. In most cases, we can schedule the vehicle pick-up with a preferred licensed vendor on the initial call once the donation record has been completed.

3)    Receive a Donation Receipt. In most cases, you will receive an initial donation receipt from the tow driver at the time of your vehicle pick-up. If the vehicle sells for $500 or less, donors are also mailed a thank-you letter within 30 days of the sale of the vehicle, which serves as a tax receipt. If the vehicle sells for more than $500 and the donor has provided their tax identification number, an IRS Form 1098-C will be mailed to the donor within 30 days of the sale stating the amount of gross proceeds (the maximum amount of your tax deduction) received from your donation.
